HOME WORK

The Joy of Cleaning

My landlord is doing some work on my house this week so my husband and I had to move all our things out of kitchen. If you have ever been in my kitchen you can just imagine that project- I have every pot and pan and kitchen gadget one could need, but that's not the point.

As a result, I had to take all the food out of my fridge and move it to my neighbors. OH GOSH, when I opened her fridge I was like –YIKES does she clean this thing? I think it's important to know that she is a health-food-kind of gal. She's also a great cook. We go to pot lucks at her house all the time. But the fridge….. I was wondering how she stays inspired to eat well every day?

Being organized helps a great deal when it comes to supporting your health.

When we are organized we are inspired to cook and take care of ourselves.

Here are some questions to look at if you are trying to get inspired about cooking and eating well.

  1. Do you know what foods are in your fridge?

  2. If so, can you list them now without looking? This knowledge will help you plan what you want to eat ahead of time (before the blood sugar gets too low).

  3. Do you know if food in the fridge has gone bad?

  4. Are you shocked when you open the fridge and find old (moldy) food? If so, it might be time to clean the fridge more frequently.

I actually LOVE cleaning the fridge. I love putting away the groceries because I want to know every ingredient that is in the fridge THAT WEEK. When I know the ingredients I have on hand I'm inspired and can easily plan the weeks menu. I regularly throw out old food and am reminded of the array of condiments to choose from. When I see a clean, shining fridge filled with delicious colorful foods I think I AM TAKING CARE OF MYSELF. THIS IS EASY.

This weeks' assignment …………CLEAN YOUR FRIDGE

This weekend set aside some time. Take everything out and do a deep clean. Take out the shelves and drawers and wash them. This only needs to be done about 1x a month if, on a weekly basis, you actually give it a quick wipe down.

Then go through every item and...
If you don't use it or it's expired, trash it.
If you "think" you are going to use it but in reality won't, trash it.
If you really want to use it find a recipe this weekend and use it.
If you like it then you can buy more.

After you go through all the ingredients keep only the items that you enjoy eating, that are fresh and that look inspiring.

Start to create a system in your fridge that works for you.
Feel free to use mine. I actually have a diagram on the outside of my fridge so that my husband (or guests) will know where to put things.

You can check out my diagram HERE. I think it works great, but each fridge is different.

Then go shopping . Make a list of foods you want to restock or try.
When you get home put everything in the fridge in your systemized place.

Each week wipe down the fridge, throw out the old stuff and restock.
Once a month give it the good wipe down.

Trust me your fridge will love it, your eyes will enjoy the site, your body will feel supported and your health will improve!

If you need support with your health please call me!
I'd love to help.

In eight weeks you will feel better, stronger and happier with the choices you make for your health and well-being.

In addition, you will strengthen your abs, increase your flexibility and release tension. This class will provide you with a solid foundation to get your fitness on track and will motivate you to continue your practice at home.

Wednesday nights the group will meet for a nutritional workshop which will include information about Whole foods (whole grains, greens, sweet and root vegetables and more!) We will discuss practical strategies on how to integrate these powerful, energizing foods into our busy lives, including how to shop and prepare the food.
