Now onto listening to the body…

A few years ago I started to pay more attention to my menstrual cycle.
I wanted to know as much as I could about it because I knew if I learned the rhythms of my body I would gain deeper insights into myself. Studying my menstrual cycle I learned about my moods, my cravings, body image and the way I treat myself every day.

Based on what I learned I put together a workshop that supports other women to learn from their body. It's my WOMEN AND WELLNESS WORKSHOP: Treat PMS Naturally and I'm teaching it this Sunday at The Yoga Tree Hayes. Details are below.

This week instead of hearing about my experience to food and health I want to introduce Dinene Hines- former Fruition Health client. She not only did the program but was so inspired that she has changed her career path and is now training to be holistic health counselor. Dinene has been a participant in our cleanses and has a remarkable story about her relationship to food (fats especially), digestion, menstruation and primary food. See below to hear about her incredible transformation.

client testimonial

"I first became interested in nutrition and holistic health about four years ago, when I attended an 'Intro to Nutrition' class, taught by Darshana Weill. I was inspired by the way she spoke about food: the food on your plate, and also the
things that feed your soul- the primary foods. I joined Fruition and it changed my life!

Before I came to Fruition, I was in a bit of a rut. I felt trapped at my job, I was in a constant cycle of worrying and stress, my energy was low, and my digestion was not working well. I was drinking coffee to wake up, and prune juice to go to the bathroom every day. I was critical of myself for being so regimented, but I didn't know what else to do. I also worried a lot, and had tremendous fear of developing an illness or disease.

In the early 90's I'd discovered low fat dieting, which turned into severe food restricting. I counted fat grams so that I would consume as little as possible, preferably zero. I used fat free margarines (with trans fats) and sugar free products (with aspartame) as substitutes for fat and calories. I lost my period for five years, was constipated and had migraines. I had developed an anorexic mind set, believing that thinner was better, even at the expense of my health. Several years later, I found my way to Fruition. When Darshana looked at my diet summary, she recommended adding some healthy fats into my diet. She explained how fat as a macro nutrient works in the body, and gave me some exciting ideas on how to use flax oil (as a dip for mo chi), olive oil (in Green Goddess salad dressing), avocados (yummy avocado salad dressing), etc., which I have now incorporated into my diet. This has improved my health in endless ways. I have more energy, my digestion has improved, and my menstrual cycle is normal. To this day, when fears of gaining weight surface, I no longer drop the fats and oils from my diet. I know they are good for me now.

In working with Darshana and the Fruition program, I learned to look at what was or was not nourishing me besides the food on my plate. My bouts with worry and fear become less frequent as I started to trust and believe in the innate wisdom of my body. I was feeling nourished and nurtured, inside and out. When Darshana asked me what I wanted to do with my life, I answered that I wanted to follow in her footsteps, to be a Nutritional Counselor. She enthusiastically gave me information, support, and guidance, which led me to Bauman College. I completed the Nutrition Education program there, and am now halfway through with the Nutrition Consultant training program.

I have attended two of Fruition's Spring Cleanses, which were wonderful guided group experiences. I thought a cleanse would be depriving but the Fruition cleanses provide you with exciting new whole food suggestions, recipes, and new ways of relating to food. I look forward to doing more of them.

I am immensely grateful to Darshana and Fruition for helping me along my journey of health and healing."
